Measuring with centimeters and meters, grams and kilograms, milliliters and liters: choosing sensible units, estimating, comparing and solving measurement problems.
Learning standard: NY-3.MD.2 · measuring and estimating liquid volumes and masses in grams, kilograms and liters
Unit 7
Time
Telling time on an analog clock, working out start and end times, and knowing how seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years relate.
Learning standard: NY-3.MD.1 · telling time to the nearest minute and solving time-interval problems
Unit 8
Numbers to 10,000
Reading, writing and comparing numbers up to 10,000: place value, expanded form, number lines, ordering and rounding.
Learning standard: NY-3.NBT.4; NY-3.NBT.1 · reading, writing and comparing four-digit numbers with place value and expanded form, and rounding
Unit 9
Round & Count
Rounding numbers to the nearest ten or hundred, counting forward and back by 50s, 100s and 200s, and comparing and ordering numbers up to 1000.
Learning standard: NY-3.NBT.1 · rounding whole numbers to the nearest 10 or 100
Unit 10
Area & Perimeter
Finding the perimeter (distance around) of rectangles and triangles, finding a missing side, and measuring area in square centimeters and square meters.
Learning standard: NY-3.MD.5; NY-3.MD.6; NY-3.MD.7; NY-3.MD.8 · measuring area with unit squares, relating area to multiplication, and solving perimeter problems
Unit 11
Sorting Polygons
Practices naming polygons by their number of sides and sorting them as regular (all sides and angles equal) or irregular.
Learning standard: NY-3.G.1 · naming and sorting polygons by their number of sides and vertices
Unit 12
Times Tens
Multiplying a one-digit number by a multiple of ten (like 6 × 40) using a basic fact and place value.
Learning standard: NY-3.NBT.3 · multiplying one-digit numbers by multiples of 10 from 10 to 90
Unit 13
Two-Step Stories
Word problems that take two steps with any of the four operations, choosing an equation with a letter for the unknown, and checking an answer by estimating.
Learning standard: NY-3.OA.8 · solving two-step word problems with the four operations and checking answers by estimating
Unit 14
Halves & Fourths of an Inch
Measuring lengths to the nearest half and quarter inch, then reading the measurements from a table like a line plot.
