Count on, count back and skip count!

What your child practices

Counting forward within 100, back from 20, by 2s to 20, and by 5s and 10s to 100, plus seeing small amounts at a glance (subitizing).

Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) teks student expectation: 1.2(A); 1.5(A); 1.5(B) · recognizing quantities at a glance, counting forward and back, and skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Skip count by 2s, 5s or 10s.
  2. Find how much the number grows each time.
  3. Keep adding that much to find the next number.

Example: Count by 5s: 15, 20, 25, 30, ? Each step adds 5. 30 + 5 = 35. Answer: 35
