Sun & Moon Patterns

How the Sun and Moon change in the sky.

What your child practices

Practices the pattern of the Sun's position through the day, how shadows change, and how the Moon seems to change shape over about a month. Remind your child never to look straight at the Sun.

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. The Sun rises in the morning and sets at night, every day.
  2. At noon the Sun is high in the sky.
  3. The Moon seems to change shape. Never look right at the Sun.

Example: Where is the Sun at noon? The Sun rises low in the morning. By noon it is high up. Answer: high in the sky
