Rocks, Soil, Water & Air

Sort rocks, feel the wind, and see how we use earth materials.

What your child practices

Practices sorting rocks by size, shape, color and texture, noticing that air is all around us and that wind is moving air, and naming ways people use rocks, soil and water.

How we explain it

Children can open this short lesson before they practice.

  1. Rocks can be big or small, round or rough.
  2. Wind is moving air. Air is all around us.
  3. We use soil to grow plants and water to drink.

Example: Why do gardens need soil? Plant roots grow in soil. Soil helps plants grow. Answer: so plants can grow
